Mackenzie

Hello! I’m Mackenzie, the creator, designer, writer, and editor of Fall In Love with Learning (FILL for short). I hope to have help in all departments eventually, but for now, you’re stuck with me.

Throughout my professional career, I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse roles, ranging from coaching Ninja Warriors to being a mechanic for Blackhawk helicopters in the Army. However, my deep-rooted interest in environmental science and conservation, especially in marine life, has always been my greatest passion. I take pride in assisting others in discovering and pursuing their passions.

Education

I hold a Bachelor of Science Degree with a major in marine biology and if I had a better advisor/mentor I would also have a minor in ecology (I was unknowingly 1 credit shy). I aspire to be that better advisor.

Family

My family is the reason I have started this blog. My beautiful wife Cherie and I have been married for 8 years. Our oldest son, Kaimana, is starting his 3rd year of homeschooling (not counting Covid, online school). He officially started his homeschooling journey in 8th grade. Finally, our adorable twin boys, whom we will call Thing 1 and Thing 2 till they are old enough to decide if and how they want to be a part of this blog, just turned 2. I like to say they’ve been child-led learning their whole lives.

Experience

I have partnered with schools and camps educating, while getting the children excited, on the importance of protecting coral reefs. This included topics on watersheds, single-use plastic, sunscreen, pesticides/herbicides, oxygen/carbon dioxide, and how the children and their families could get involved to help.

Right before my family made the choice to pack all our things into an RV and hit the road, I was working with a friend/former EOL teacher on forming a nature-based co-op. We were just starting trial runs when my family decided we needed to do what was best for us, which meant traveling fulltime.
